The Xbox Live Stats Widget is an Android widget that evolved from the Android project I have done at the VU University, which has led to the development of a widely used and loved Android application.
The Xbox Live Stats Widget allows you to keep track of your own and your friends xbox live status. The widget shows your gamer icon, status, last game played and current gamerscore. Status notifications can be enabled optionally.
In this internship I will be working on the Intelligent Tutor System (ITS) of the serious game "MijnNaamIsHaas". The goal of this internship is to research the possibilities of the ITS within the MijnNaamIsHaas game and how the existing design of the ITS can be developed further.
In this project we have created an interactive multitouch audio experience application built in Actionscript 3 / Flash. Using the TUIO multitouch and SiON synthesizer libraries have been able to develop a portable multitouch application that can be controlled using a professional multitouch surface such as the surface in the Intertain lab at the VU in Amsterdam, but also with a homemade multitouch surface such as the one we created as seen in the photo's below. Though the application is built for TUIO multitouch data, it also has singletouch mouse support, so be sure to try out the NiftySynth application. For a demonstration on the Intertain multitouch surface please go to the projects website on www.niftysystems.nl/audio!
In this project we will look into the development options that the Android platform has to offer. Using the Google SDK, it is possible to develop small example widgets and applications for the mobile Android platform, allowing us to explore the technological connectivity possibilities of today's high end smartphones. In this document we describe our experience with the Android platform, its possibilities and limitations and discuss the example programs and widgets we created.
Bluetube, created by VU student Peter Peerdeman, is a bluetooth system that waits for users to send their image and video content via bluetooth. Whenever a user sends his image or video it is automatically uploaded to Picasa or Youtube. This way, a visitor of Gogbot can share his or her content to the rest of the world without having to go through the hassle of copying their content to a pc, creating an online account and manually uploading the content themselves. Because the content is automatically tagged with "gogbot09", the content can easily be found and included in other programs or websites. In addition to the online upload, the uploaded content is shown right away on a projector screen at the Bluetube stand.
In the Vrije Universiteit's course "Privacy en Beveiliging"several privacy and security related issues are discussed. The course is separated in 2 hours of college and 2 hours of practical tutorial lessons per week. In 2009-2010 I have given the practical tutorial lessons.

The duo Peter Peerdeman en Timen Olthof study a Master Computer Science Multimedia at the VU in Amsterdam. Niftysystems is the name that is used to showcase their projects to the outside world. If you are interested in one of these projects, please contact us.

TOMS stands for The Object Management System. The goal of this system is the creation of an open-ended, highly versatile object management system database. The system is designed to enable its users to easily submit and maintain items in their own portfolio-like system and represent their works in various ways. By separating the database and content management from the representation, users are able to use the system to get the object information into their own representations without having to hardcode their content into their application.

PowerRail is a Papervision 3d and XML powered presenting tool. The application delivers a flash 3d environment in which content ranging from text, images, video's and even live streams can be displayed. Because of the versatility of the application the results are only limited to the user's creativity.
RFID Fuzzing can prove to be a valuable tool in RFID security testing. By creating an automated tool that can test the robustness of an RFID system we can see if RFID hard- and middleware is capable of handling a large stream of malformed information and thus test how reliable the system is. This thesis focuses on command layer fuzzing, and the implementation of it inside a module of the well known RFID security program RFID Guardian. Being a work in progress, this thesis also gives pointers for further research in the RFID fuzzing field.
